Pheromone traps utilize insect hormones that simulate the type of scent produced by the female insect to seduce or lure their male counterparts. Males lured into traps are prevented from mating. These traps assist the grower in determining the mating activity of the insect pest by counting insects trapped over a period of time. This information will enable a sound decision to be made regarding the timing for the release of beneficial insects and the use of organic repellents and insecticides to knock down large pest populations.

• Application Protocol:Place the Lure/Dispenser in the trap lure holder and place the trap at various locations in the field. Traps should ideally be placed in shaded areas. Recommended to use one lure of FARMROOT Melon Fly per trap. One FARMROOT Melon Fly lure would last up to 75-90 days depending upon climatic conditions. The trapping density should be adequate to manage pest infestation. The recommended trap density is 40-50 traps/hectare for mass trapping & 8-10 traps/hectare for monitoring.


• FARMROOT Melon Fly Lure is intended for use as an attractant of Melon fly (Bactrocera Cucurbitae) in the cultivation of many crops such as cucumbers, gherkin gourds such as bottle, ridge, bitter, snake gourds etc., melons, pumpkins, tomatoes, watermelon, zucchini etc., in order to trap them for monitoring and mass trapping. This is found to reduce the intensity of pest incidence, leading to a reduction in crop damage, thereby improving the yield/output quality.

• Storage and Disposal precautions: Store the dispenser away from sunlight in a dry and cool place. Do not open the pouch until just before placing it in the trap lure holder. The product expiry date is 2 years from the production date under good storage conditions and without opening the sealed pouch.
